Why So Many from Los Angeles Choose Covina for Sober Living
The pull of Los Angeles. The Dodgers. The beach. The chaos. The taco trucks. Trying to stay sober in L.A. can feel like trying to meditate in the middle of a Metallica concert.
Between the traffic, the temptations, and the cost of literally everything, it’s no wonder folks are heading east to find some breathing room.

Covina’s got that small-town energy without the small-minded attitude. We’ve got the wide sidewalks, the quiet streets, the family-owned cafes that still know your name, and parks like Covina Park and Kahler Russell Park that feel like little pockets of serenity.
And guess what? We’re just 30 minutes from downtown L.A. on a good day, or an hour and a half if you leave at 5 p.m. (because, well… L.A.).
Covina may not have the flashing lights of Sunset or the surf culture of Venice, but what it does have is a strong, supportive sober community.
From weekly AA and NA meetings nearby, to spiritual groups at Covina United Methodist Church, to that local corner store that doesn’t look at you sideways when you’re just trying to buy Gatorade and breathe—it’s the kind of environment that helps people stay grounded.
You’re still close enough to visit family in L.A., attend job interviews, go to school, or enjoy your favorite taquería, but you’re removed just enough to get the clarity and consistency you need to build something new.
Recovery, But Without the $4,000/Month Price Tag
Affordable sober living in Los Angeles County is often a cruel joke. You either pay top dollar to live in a spa with six rules, or you end up in a place where the primary form of accountability is hoping your roommate doesn’t steal your socks.
Puente House is different.
We’re located in the heart of Covina and rooted in real recovery. That means house rules with heart, support with structure, and a real sense of community.
We offer men’s and women’s sober living homes that feel like, dare I say it, homes. Clean, comfortable bedrooms. Shared spaces with space. Utilities and Wi-Fi included. And none of those weird “add-on fees” that suddenly make your sober journey cost more than your UCLA tuition.
We’re recovery people helping recovery people. Most of us have been in your shoes (or flip-flops, or borrowed sneakers). We don’t just talk the talk, we walk it, day by day.
A Day in the Life at Puente House
Morning: Wake up in a real bed, brew your coffee, and head out to work or school, or hit a meeting.
Midday: Check in with your sponsor, attend a job interview, or schedule your therapy session. We’re close to dozens of resources, including West Covina Medical Center, The Pathways Recovery Center, and San Gabriel Valley Alano Club, so you can find the support that fits you.
Evening: House dinner, accountability check-ins, laughter in the kitchen, and maybe a group Netflix binge (we vote on “Selling Sunset,” but it’s a democratic decision here).
FAQ
What makes Puente House different from other LA sober living homes?
We focus on structure, community, and quality of living. Our homes are safe, supportive, and run by people who’ve walked the same path. It’s not just sober housing; it’s a sober lifestyle. Think supportive family vibe, not boot camp or luxury rehab.
Is this just for women?
No, we have two private homes for men and one for women. We know that women’s needs, challenges, and strengths deserve their own space, and we’ve created a home that honors that.
How much does sober living cost in Los Angeles?
It varies by home and services but generally ranges between $900 and $3000/month. Puente House is affordable at $800/month, only $26/day, and we don’t believe in hidden fees. We also offer payment plans when needed. Quality recovery shouldn’t bankrupt anyone.
Is this the same as a halfway house?
Sort of, but better. We’re part of the sober housing network but offer more structure, support, and community than most traditional halfway houses. Our homes are safe, clean, and recovery-focused.
Are you affiliated with any 12-step programs?
While not officially affiliated, we support and encourage attendance at AA, NA, and other recovery-based communities. You’ll have access to meetings every day of the week.
