A friend sent me this email a few weeks ago and said it was a quote from an old-timer in AA:
“Give up your old map for your life. Give up your internal argument against the world. There is a perfect destiny inside of you that you don’t know – and it will unfold when you live your journey moment by moment without a rigid set of directions. Be totally open to: A LIFE WITHOUT A MAP.
Remember Bill Wilson wanted to be a very wealthy wall-street banker and he ended up changing the world.”
I often think that I know what will make me happy and of course, if I am happy, those around will be pleased as well. Truth be told, I am often wrong about what is the right fit for me at the moment. I can confer with sponsors and friends, but ultimately, my higher power the best plan of them all. It is something that is out of the realm of my imagination. That’s why I enjoy the above quote so much. If Bill W. got what he wanted, I would not be alive today, never mind clean and sober. The fellowship we love so dearly, and the steps that give us a dally reprieve, came as a result of Bill giving up his old map. May we start everyday as a new journey on a blank page.Share post
